My Very First International Mural

You never know what kind of adventures art is going to take you on. And I certainly didn't expect it to take me all the way to the island of Puerto Rico. My soon-to-be-client, Sarah, had just moved to Puerto Rico from Houston saw one of my posts about a mural that I painted in a kid's bedroom. Little did I know, she had been trying for weeks to paint a particular wall in her house, but didn't feel like she had the talent or the time to do it correctly. After seeing my mural she called me up on a whim to see if I would be interested in flying out to paint a mural in her home.

Hmmmm. You mean, I get to do what I love (paint murals) on one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean.

The answer was a definite YES!

Sarah gave me a couple of ideas of cultural icons that I could include in the artwork and my creativity took off from there! After sending her a sketch, she booked the ticket and I excitedly waited for the day when my plane would leave.

As soon as I arrived on the island I realized that Puerto Rico is an island dripping in COLOR. The loud, bold colors match the warm and friendly people that I met there. The mural I painted (pictured below) was designed to match that vibe. The mural is located on the wall of an outdoor patio area. Every time this family enjoys that patio, they will also get to enjoy my art. I just love it!

I ended up painting not one, but THREE murals in Sarah and her husband's home and then they treated me to a day at the beach and sent me off to the capital city of San Juan to enjoy my last couple of days there.

Here is the mural that they got painted on a wall in their master bedroom. Sarah's goal for the room was to feel like she was in a rainforest and I think we hit it on the head.

I enjoyed my time with this family and on this island immensely. And now, I've added "Traveling Mural Painter" to my resume forever.
